In the order of the European Union the project
AQUALIBRIUM has the aim of identifying co-operations between public and private institutions of the water supply and distribution systems in all member states of the European Union.
The project makes a contribution to the improvement of present knowledge about the recent debates and methods around the liberalisation of the European water markets.
A multi-dimensional European "map" which shows the state-of-the-art of national strategies for the organisation of water management is prepared by AQUALIBRIUM on the basis of this information. Part of the examination is the analysis of advantages and disadvantages of different co-operation models, the identification of thematic topics and knowledge deficits as well as recommendations of "best practice" examples. With a reunion of representatives of most different institutions, organisations and countries in a common research process AQUALIBRIUM intends to initiate a starting point for a European network of experts in the water supply and distribution system in the theme of public-private-partnership.
The tasks of nexus are the processing of the research tasks for select member countries of the European Union mentioned above as well as the complete coordination of the project and the uniting of the results of all country studies.
