Establishment of a Public Transport Users Committee for Wales
Establishment of a Public Transport Users Committee for Wales
The Transport (Wales) Act 2006 gave the Welsh Assembly Government powers to set up a body representing the interests of public transport users in Wales. Similar bodies already exist in Wales but they are mode-specific and do not encompass all public transport modes within one organisation. Some other parts of the United Kingdom already have multi-modal user organisations. The "Public Transport Users Committee" shall have twelve members representing all user groups. It will play an important role in influencing regional transport policy and also act as a point of contact for other organisations active in this field.
The Welsh Assembly Government has invited nexus to contribute its experience to a working group set-up to develop the statute of the organisation and oversee the selection of members. The new body shall have its first public meeting in October 2008.
