The participation of passengers by transport enterprises was the key point of the presentation of Martin Schiefelbusch and Holger Jansen at Maastricht. The nexus employees held a presentation to the 50 participants of the European Passengers’ Federation (EPF) annual meeting. They presented the results of different projects on public transport managed over the last years."It is all about four different levels: politics, planning, production and practice of public transport" explains Martin Schiefelbusch. Participation of citizens and passengers is possible at every level. The result is a better acceptance of public transport. "Important is the framework. There is still a difference between public transport and classic competitive markets" explains Mr Schiefelbusch. There are licences given to operators lasting many years. The customer has no alternative of using another company even if the operator provides poor quality.
But quality plays an important role to the passengers of public transport. The nexus-Institute is working on a study of new trends on passengers’ rights in the EU. "During the next few months we will analyse the situation in all member states and focus on new trends" said Holger Jansen. That includes all modes of transport, e.g. rail, bus and coaches as well as sea and air-transport.
The nexus-team asked the EPF-members to support them and send information to nexus. "You are important supporters and ambassadors" said Mr Jansen and Schiefelbusch. EPF and nexus will continue the already existing good cooperation.
