This project, which is funded by the
Federal Ministry for Education and Research, focuses on local facilities available for collective use in the state of Brandenburg, Germany, especially its peripheral areas. The purpose is to explore examples indicating whether a sustainable, environmentally sound, local economy for stabilizing community life is possible under prevailing structural conditions, which are marked by a lack of external economic investment, low population density, high unemployment, aging, and social segregation caused by emigration.
Five project partners representing the scientific community and other stakeholders are to study different aspects of collective use, such as the basic sociocultural conditions involved, effects on the environment and employment, educational concepts, and interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary cooperation.
