The project is part of a network for the sustainable development of the megacity of Hyderabad in southern India (capital of Andra Pradesh and one of the boomtowns in the area of IT-industries and services), headed by the Humboldt-University of Berlin. The network is part of the program "Research for the Sustainable Development of the Mega-Cities of Tomorrow", which is funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research. Started in 2005, the project is intended to last 11 years, two of which are so far approved. The aim of the Indian and German partners is to study and create strategies for a sustainable development of fast-growing cities. Based on the principles of action research several pilot projects will be implemented in the areas of food supply, health care, water supply, transport, and transparent and reliable administration structures. The task of the nexus Institute for cooperation management and the associated Centre for Technology and Society (ZTG) is to research forms of communication, cooperation and participation for the above mentioned development goals, as well as – in the second phase of the project – the implementation of specific cooperation processes with Indian partners. The active participation of women is an integral part during these processes. Additionally, the nexus institute is responsible for the interactive homepage of the project: www.sustainable-hyderabad.in. In a next step the findings of the project shall be applied to other Iranian new towns.
